Welcome to Pride Rugby
What began as a rag tag bunch of kids tossing a “funny shaped” ball around on a rough patch of grass and dirt has evolved into a highly competitive program that includes more than 90 high school and middle school boys and girls from the Hyde Leadership Public Charter School (now known as Perry Street Prep Public Charter School) in Washington, DC.
Their unique story as one of the first all African American rugby programs in the USA has defied stereotypes and changed perceptions. It is not just playing a game that makes them special, it is more than that. The experiences shared between the rugby players in the program, their opponents and the larger community, have helped change minds, hearts and futures... welcome to Pride Rugby.

The key to our success?
Rugby provides a unique challenge that helps develop character, leadership skills, and brotherhood. Combine that with a dedicated and caring coaching staff, an environment where “attitude and effort” are more important than “aptitude and ability” and a commitment to personal excellence and you have the essence of what makes Pride Rugby the “Pride of DC.
